A fair India versus UK comparison uses the same knee operation, a complete self-pay budget and a realistic aftercare plan. The figures below are selected provider examples in their original currencies. They are not national averages, and NHS-funded treatment is a separate pathway.

Match the operation before the prices
Total, partial and bilateral knee replacement need separate comparisons. A primary package also cannot price a revision. Each clinical proposal should explain the diagnosis, which side needs treatment, the alternatives, implant assumptions and whether robotic assistance is included.

Kannur bilateral primary TKR or suitable UKA is USD 4,000 to 4,500, or USD 4,600 to 5,100 with CORI. The USD 600 supplement is applied once to the bilateral package. These calculations use the practice ranges confirmed on 29 August 2026, not a new price confirmation.
The price needs its scope beside it
The Kannur standard package covers the planned admission to discharge: room, consumables and disposables, inpatient medicines, consultations, inpatient physiotherapy, the agreed implant, theatre, doctor and anaesthesia charges. Travel, visa and additional accommodation are separate; custom logistics can be arranged.
Benenden separates the initial consultation from the procedure price. Its page lists surgery, a knee X-ray, private room and follow-up consultation within the guide price; diagnostic needs and the final personalised quote still matter. [1]
Practice Plus Group describes necessary X-rays, blood tests and swabs with the initial consultation, and postoperative medicines, follow-up, home mobility aids and physiotherapy in its package. Nuffield lists pre-assessment, main treatment and post-discharge care within its treatment guide, with consultation and any needed diagnostics identified separately. [2] [3]
For either route, the personal estimate should resolve the implant, planned stay and remaining inclusions. Public packages differ, so the table cannot establish an identical episode of care.
Compare the time to treatment separately
Practice Plus Group currently advertises a wait typically under four weeks. This is the provider's description checked on 24 October 2026, not an NHS waiting-time statistic or a guaranteed date for a particular patient. [2]
A Kannur date depends on record review, medical readiness, travel, hospital capacity and CORI availability when relevant. The hospital confirms the proposed date after those steps. Neither route should be called faster until both providers have assessed the same case.
If you are eligible for NHS treatment, your own referral and local pathway deserve a separate discussion. A private price comparison cannot tell you the cost or waiting time of NHS-funded care.
Add the whole India journey
The complete budget includes flights, entry requirements, local recovery, a companion where needed, insurance and rehabilitation at home. Use confirmed costs plus expected additional spending, then hold a separate reserve. Keep provider amounts in GBP or USD and state the rate and date if you convert them.
The usual primary-replacement hospital pathway in Kannur is three days. For an uncomplicated unilateral replacement and a flight over four hours, the practice's first-reassessment window is 14 to 21 days after surgery. For bilateral knee replacement it is 21 to 28 days or later. These are author-confirmed planning windows, not automatic flight clearance.
Recent surgery, limited movement and a long journey make clot-risk assessment important. Wound condition, mobility, pain, medical stability, the route and airline requirements also influence whether the return trip is appropriate. [4]
Make the home handover part of the decision
UK treatment may make face-to-face review easier. When treatment is in Kannur, the plan should include the operation record, implant details, images, medicine and rehabilitation instructions, plus a local clinician or therapist for hands-on care. A video review supports planned follow-up; it cannot replace urgent assessment in the UK. [4]
Follow-up with Dr Vishnu is included as appropriate for your case. The plan should distinguish routine review from symptoms needing local care. The handover sheet gives the UK clinician the key restrictions and next steps without making the patient reconstruct the operation from memory.
Which pathway fits your life?
Family support in Kerala, flexible leave and an arranged UK rehabilitation plan may make Kannur practical. High travel risk, limited leave or easier access to a familiar local team may favour treatment in the UK. An uncertain diagnosis needs resolving before either price can guide a decision.
Use the knee package guide, trip-length guide and follow-up guide to examine the part of your plan that remains unclear.
